The AIA/Deltek Architecture Billings Index (ABI) report for April 2025 reveals a continued downturn in architecture firm billings, with index scores below 50 indicating a decline. Over the past year, the monthly average scores have remained consistently low, suggesting weak business conditions across all regions and sectors of the country. The West and Northeast scored particularly poorly at 42.1 and 40.2, respectively. Furthermore, firms specializing in commercial/industrial and multifamily residential projects reported even weaker billings, with scores of 40.5 and 40.8. Despite these challenges, nearly half of firms engaged in international projects within the last five years reported work in Canada, which remains the most common international destination. The ABI serves as an important leading indicator of future nonresidential construction activity, suggesting that current trends may impact the industry for the next 9-12 months.
