The AIA/Deltek Architecture Billings Index (ABI) for April 2025 indicates continued struggles for architecture firms, with billings showing a downward trend. The diffusion index, derived from monthly surveys, reported a score of 47.2, suggesting a decline in billings compared to the previous month, reflecting weak business conditions nationwide across all regions. Specifically, the West, South, Midwest, and Northeast regions recorded scores of 42.1, 46.2, 44.4, and 40.2, respectively. Billings in sectors such as commercial/industrial, multifamily residential, and institutional also softened, with scores of 40.5, 40.8, and 46.3. Additionally, roughly half of firms engaged in international projects over the past five years reported work in Canada, with varying activity levels in other regions, including Western Europe and China. Overall, the ABI suggests a challenging outlook for architecture firms, with a long-term decrease in nonresidential construction activity anticipated.
